As a response to the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, the Department of Education put in place a series of BER (Building the Education Revolution) projects, whose aim was to provide new and refurbished infrastructure to eligible Australian schools. Luttrell Pyefinch were commissioned by Northern Christian School to design a new 2-storey building with classrooms, breakout spaces and wet areas, that open up via operable wall, with large sliding doors opening onto a courtyard. These collaborative teaching spaces allow for social integration and a broader sense of community within the school.

On the lower level, a science wet area and art room space extends the schools curriculum, providing the school’s Kinder to Year 6 students with a broad range of amenity within a tight area.

Colours and materials were chosen to translate the surrounding natural landscape into a textured and durable form.
