Education: Creative Arts Centre
Guilford Young College
The Don Bosco Creative Arts Centre
The College commissioned Luttrell Pyefinch architects to design a contemporary performing arts centre. The building provides an auditorium for 640 people, a proscenium arch theatre with full stage floor complete with a fully equipped flytower, green rooms and a gallery space. The facility is used by various schools and a range of community groups. Integral to the brief was the need to provide a safe working environment able to fulfill educational requirements for student performance and technical operation. The main auditorium has a large bank of retractable seats that permits functional adaptabilty. The architects gained practical experience into installation and specification of operable seating systems. The design introduced an innovative step lighting specifically developed by the design team.
